Analysis of solar technology life cycles, with a focus on integrated solar thermal systems for buildings, and some thoughts on the topic

Abstract
This study aims to provide a critical overview of solar system Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) research. Here we
highlight the BI solar thermal systems. To round up the literature review, we also include studies on BA
designs and systems that generate electrical (or electrical/thermal) energy. Additionally, we look at how BI
solar thermal systems affect the environmental profile of buildings. Ongoing standardisation and
environmental indicators are among the important topics covered. According to the findings, there is a
knowledge vacuum in life cycle assessment (LCA) about actual BI solar thermal (and solar thermal/electrical)
systems. Therefore, further life cycle assessment (LCA) studies should be conducted to investigate the BI solar
thermal system, either independently or in combination with the building. It would be fascinating to study
active systems that might power the building. A more sustainable built environment may benefit from studies
that examine how BI solar thermal systems affect the life-cycle performance of buildings.
